RIO DE JANEIRO AIRPORT

With Brazil’s long history of innovative architectural pursuit and a densely-compacted city dynamic considered, this proposal represents a culmination of cultural and geographical factors.

The design process for this prototype follows the initial figure-ground drawing which is then multiplied and developed into three dimensions. Contextually, the project seeks to integrate into the larger urban fabric of Rio de Janeiro and represent more than just an airport serving as a gateway to a destination and become a destination in itself.

This project integrates elements typically not found in airports such as housing, entertainment, public sports complexes, and recreation. The goal with this broadened programmatic spectrum is to expand the scope of the airport to become more than simply a transit center, and a new form of building typology altogether.
